By Car
Driving is the most straightforward option and gives you the freedom to move around once you arrive. Newport is accessible via Route 138 East across the Claiborne Pell Bridge — there’s a toll eastbound.
- From Boston: Approximately 1.5 hours via I-95 South to Route 138 East.
- From Providence: About 45 minutes via Route 138 East.
- From New York City: Around 3.5–4 hours via I-95 North through Connecticut and Rhode Island.
- From Hartford: Roughly 2 hours via I-44 East and I-95.
Parking in Newport itself can be limited in summer — staying in Middletown and driving into the city avoids most of that friction. Both of our properties offer private parking for multiple vehicles.
By Train
Amtrak’s Northeast Regional and Acela routes stop at Providence Station, which is around 45 minutes from Newport by car or taxi. There’s no direct rail connection to Newport itself. From Providence, RIPTA (Rhode Island Public Transit Authority) runs a route to Newport, or a rideshare takes roughly 40 minutes.
By Ferry
Seasonal ferry service runs from Providence to Newport from late spring through autumn via the Narragansett Bay Ferry. It’s a scenic and genuinely enjoyable crossing — one of the more pleasant ways to arrive if the timing works. The Seastreak ferry also runs from New York’s Pier 11 to Newport on select summer weekends.
By Air
T.F. Green Airport in Providence (PVD) is the closest commercial airport, roughly 45 minutes from Newport. Boston Logan (BOS) is approximately 90 minutes away and offers significantly more flight options. Both are well-served by major carriers.
Once You’re There
A hire car is useful for getting the most out of Aquidneck Island, particularly if you’re planning day trips to the beaches or the Cliff Walk from Middletown. For evenings in Newport, rideshare options are readily available and make the short journey straightforward.
